Peter Airey is a singer/songwriter, guitarist, fiddle and ukelele player. A professional musician and teacher, who has had two record deals with EMI and appeared on Top of The Pops in the UK. He has taught Irish Traditional fiddle and Old-Time American fiddle. He also teaches finger-style acoustic guitar e.g. Classical, Bossa Nova and Latino-style. He was instrumental in setting up the first Irish music session in Thailand in 2021.
Irish Fiddle
Irish fiddle playing differs from Classical violin playing in several important ways. The music was never written down, until about 70 years ago, so the tunes were passed down over the generations by listening and copying. Therefore, it was an aural tradition. Ideally, a student should learn how to play tunes by ear, although that is harder these days. There are therefore many different versions of each tune.
Another major difference with Irish playing is a bowing technique very different from Classical playing. It is important to learn these techniques to play Irish music authentically.
Guitar & Ukelele
Pete has taught many different styles of guitar playing: Spanish, Classical, Latino, strum-and-sing and Flamenco for beginners. All these styles involve learning different techniques, in which Pete has many years of experience. Pete is also a ukelele player and has years of experience in teaching children to play the ukeklele through strumming and singing along.
